From Drab to Fab: A Makeover on a Pacifica Home

So, there’s a house at the top of my street that’s been sitting on the market for months. It’s a beautiful home, in one of the best undiscovered neighborhoods in Pacifica… but it’s not selling.

I was chatting with my mom and a realtor friend about it. My mom’s baffled—why wouldn’t someone snatch it up?

But I’m not surprised.

While the house has great bones, it’s missing something. It doesn’t have that extra pizzazz that younger buyers crave.

So I look at our realtor friend and say, “It needs to be painted.”

She gives me that look—like, okay, I’ll bite… where are you going with this?

And I’m like, “It needs to be painted dark charcoal with black trim. That would make it so sexy!”

She smiles and gives me a nod of approval.

Here’s the thing—design matters. It invokes a feeling whether we realize it or not.

A drab-colored house? It gives off a meh vibe. But a deep charcoal exterior? Suddenly, it feels moody, modern, and mysterious. It transforms the whole presence of the home. I pulled together some photos (shown above) to show you the vibe—are you with me?

Or are you thinking I’ve totally lost it and my 20 years as a designer have led me astray? 😂

But seriously, if you ever feel stuck on design decisions—paint colors, finishes, styling, or just bringing your home to life—I offer design by the hour. Let’s chat!
